When the Conquistadors couldn’t completely convert the indigenous Otomi and Chichimeca peoples to the Catholic religion, they relented and let them continue with their cultural dances and practices with only the thinnest veneer of Catholicism .

The Concheros dances are a wild amalgam of two traditions, and the dancers converge on San Miguel de Allende several times a year, but the biggest is the first Friday in March, when the planting season is welcomed in with a bang!
